Estimation Algorithm for Current and Temperature of Field Winding in Electrically Excited Synchronous Machines With High-Frequency Brushless Exciters

Electrically excited synchronous machines have become one of the potential alternatives to permanent magnet in electric vehicles avoid rare-earth materials. Utilizing high-frequency brushless exciters for rotor excitation is a promising choice reduce friction losses and maintenance effort cost. However, with usage exciters, field current temperature cannot be measured directly. In this article, an algorithm proposed dynamically estimate as well winding temperature. The dc-link utilized feedback correct estimation. performance estimation initially evaluated simulations then verified by experimental measurements prototype. Based on algorithm, closed-loop control developed experimentally.
